The theory developed by Yaacov Trope in 1975 examines how individuals reduce uncertainty when assessing their own abilities. When an individual doubts their capacity to perform certain tasks, they tend to judge themselves through activities known to be complex or demanding, thus providing clear and potentially reassuring indicators. These activities are considered to have strong diagnostic power. Sometimes, to cope with uncertainty, the individual may also choose to compare themselves to others.
