Mobile couponing (m-couponing) involves distributing and using discount coupons on consumers’ mobile phones. Initially, this practice was based on sending coupons or discount codes via SMS. Today, m-couponing is primarily carried out via smartphones, which allow customers to scan the coupon’s barcode at the checkout. This approach offers economic advantages thanks to the digitization of coupons and provides great ease of use for consumers, who generally have their smartphones readily available.
In the field of m-couponing, several methods are used to distribute coupons: sending via email, SMS, through store apps or specialized coupon apps, through mobile advertising campaigns, geolocation near the point of sale, or even within the store using beacons, among other methods.
