Affinity credit cards are cards for which the cardholder agrees to donate a portion of their spending to a third-party charity. They are distinguished by the presence of two separate identities: that of the issuing financial institution and that of the affinity entity, such as a sports club, association, company, or cultural organization. For example, Société Générale offers a variety of affinity cards to its customers. Ronan Divard and Patrick Gabriel explain that these cards allow the logos of the issuer and payment network to be displayed, as well as that of an organization that brings together individuals who share similar interests, experiences, or lifestyles—in other words, individuals with common affinities. These partnerships can take various forms, ranging from football club supporters to members of a university community, celebrity fans, or donors to a charitable cause.
