When a product fully meets the advertised expectations to encourage a purchase, this is called confirmation. Conversely, non-confirmation occurs when the buyer’s expectations are not met, which can lead to disappointment. This non-conformity is called disconfirmation or negative non-confirmation when the product disappoints the user. However, it can also be positive, as in the case of Scotch-Brite, whose performance exceeded consumer expectations.
