This is particularly relevant for e-commerce sites and extended articles on editorial platforms. Fragmenting content helps prevent pages from loading too quickly and increases ad views. However, it can negatively impact SEO by reducing the amount of text essential for SEO, dispersing backlinks across pages, increasing the number of pages, and creating duplicate content. To mitigate these risks, Google introduced pagination tags (rel=&#8221;prev&#8221; and rel=&#8221;next&#8221;) in 2011 to differentiate and track the sequence of pages. Despite a 2019 announcement questioning the effectiveness of these tags, their use remains relevant.
