The Keyword Effectiveness Index (KEI) is an indicator that measures the competitiveness of a keyword by comparing the number of searches performed by internet users for that keyword to its popularity as measured by the number of pages where it is indexed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To calculate the KEI, the number of monthly searches for a keyword is divided by the number of indexed pages containing that keyword, and then the result is multiplied by 1000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For example, if we take the phrase “digital lexicon” with 50 searches and 3,420,000 indexed pages, we obtain a KEI of 0.014. However, for the exact phrase “digital lexicon” with 50 searches and 2,190 pages, the KEI is 22, which is excellent. Similarly, for “Kabyle” with 60,500 queries and 13,500,000 page views, the KEI is 4.48, making it a good keyword.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The KEI rating scale is as follows: a KEI below 1 indicates a keyword of little interest, between 1 and 10 corresponds to a good keyword, and a KEI above 10 designates an excellent keyword.
