This new approach to press relations brings about significant changes on two major fronts. First, it considerably broadens the target audience, which is no longer limited to traditional journalists but extends to influencers and opinion leaders, such as bloggers. These actors, often with a larger audience than traditional media outlets, now receive press releases and are invited to specific events. At the same time, interactions with target audiences are transformed through social networks and digital platforms dedicated to public relations, while still playing a complementary role to traditional methods.
