When a message explicitly recommends a competing brand as a replacement for the boycotted one, it is called a competitive boycott. Beyond the loss of revenue, boycotts disrupt the daily marketing operations of targeted companies, forcing them to mobilize resources to manage the crisis and address the negative impacts on the morale of employees, suppliers, and partners.
