Formerly used, the Logistics Variant was a two-position code in the Gencod (GS1) language. Its purpose was to differentiate the various standard logistics units associated with a specific basic unit. However, this practice has been abandoned and replaced by the identification of standard logistics units via an EAN 13 or EAN 14 code in more recent versions.
