The term “Desadv” refers to a shipping document that details the contents of a delivery. It is a notification sent before the products are received, providing a detailed overview to allow the recipient to prepare for receiving their order. Integrated into the EDIFACT language, the Desadv informs the recipient about goods that have been shipped or are ready to be shipped, whether for delivery or return.

Its purpose is to provide information about the shipped products, establishing a link between the supplier and the customer or relevant agent. This document can cover a single shipping point or multiple delivery locations. It informs the recipient about various elements such as the shipping date, shipment details, customs clearance procedures for international shipments, and the link between the invoice and the shipped products.

The Desadv must be sent before the physical shipment of the products, thus allowing the recipient to prepare accordingly. Each item in the shipment is identified, from the pallet to the carton, with a detailed description in the message. It is recommended to use a sequential package number or an EAN/UCC SSCC for accurate unit identification.

The Desadv structure is based on a hierarchical description of the shipment, from the most general level down to individual products. For example, a shipping notice will detail a container holding several pallets, each containing various shipping units. However, it is not necessary to describe the entire hierarchical structure; providing quantities and identifications is generally sufficient for effective communication.
