In the 1980s, a new marketing concept emerged in the United States called affinity marketing. This concept is based on the idea that consumer behavior is partly driven by their desire to identify with an influential group or a specific lifestyle. For example, using a credit card bearing the logo of a baseball team can encourage the cardholder to feel closer to that team and thus express their support as a “fan.”
