The Universal Serial Bus (USB) is a standard established in 1996 that allows various peripherals to be connected to a computer. Different versions of USB offer varying data transfer speeds. For example, USB 4.0, introduced in 2019, allows transfers of up to 40 Gbps, while USB 3.2, launched in 2017, offers a speed of 20 Gbps. Going back further, we find USB 3.1 from 2013 with 10 Gbps, and USB 3 from 2008 with 5 Gbps. It’s also worth mentioning Thunderbolt, often abbreviated as ThunderboltSS, which offers even higher transfer speeds. In short, USB remains a universal connector widely used for its performance and compatibility.
