Thierry Libaert and Didier Heiderich introduced the concept of sensitive communication as part of their work at the International Crisis Observatory. According to their definition, sensitive communication encompasses all communication actions undertaken by a company or organization to defend its interests, objectives, leaders, or image when they are threatened or likely to be threatened. Beyond ensuring that the message is received and understood by different audiences, the main objective of sensitive communication is to prevent crises. This field primarily encompasses the spheres of public relations and public affairs. Sensitive communication is thus considered an essential complement to crisis communication. However, it can also be seen as an integral part of crisis communication, given that the latter is not limited to managing crises but also aims to anticipate them.
