A redirect, as its name suggests, is a technical process that automatically directs a user to another page, whether on the same website or elsewhere on the internet. This is achieved through a command embedded in the HTTP header of a page or at the server level. Its purpose is to guide visitors or search engine bots to a new destination. Redirects are primarily used in search engine optimization (SEO) when content or a page changes its address or URL. The most common method is the 301 redirect. They are also used to personalize the user experience by directing users to content tailored to their profile (language, offers, etc.), which is called geo-targeting. Furthermore, redirects are used in email marketing and advertising, where they are referred to as ad redirects.
