Local variables in Figma simplify and standardize modifications to mockups. They are configured in the Local Variables section of the design properties panel and fall into four categories: color, number (encompassing properties of autolayouts, radii, borders, etc.), string (associated with color properties), and boolean (for conditional visibility). These variables are grouped into collections to structure element styles and encode the different variables (tokenization).
