A deposit is a partial payment made when purchasing a product, without either party being definitively bound. The buyer has the option to withdraw from the purchase by forfeiting the deposit. Conversely, if the seller wishes to cancel the transaction, they must reimburse the buyer for the deposit, as well as an equivalent sum as compensation. According to the law of January 18, 1992, which aims to strengthen consumer protection, in the absence of specific provisions regarding the nature of advance payments, they are considered to be a deposit.
