The US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) aims to protect authors’ rights. Google’s DMCA is a procedure that allows copyright holders to request that the search engine remove pages infringing their rights from its search results. By the fall of 2016, Google had already removed nearly 2 billion URLs since implementing this service. Each week, Google’s DMCA content removal request page receives more than 20 million URL removal requests.
