A borderline product is one whose sales performance and profitability are just barely acceptable to the company. These products generate minimal profits or are close to the break-even point. Despite their modest performance, these items are often kept in the product range for strategic reasons, such as to complement the assortment or to retain a particular customer segment. The goal is to increase their profitability or reposition them to make them more appealing.
