Specialization agreements are agreements concluded between two or more companies to define how they will focus on specific activities, such as the production of a limited range of goods or services. According to the European Commission, these agreements can improve the production or distribution of products by allowing the companies involved to concentrate on manufacturing certain items, optimize their efficiency, and offer these products at more competitive prices. Several types of specialization agreements exist: those where one participant cedes the manufacture or supply of certain products or services to another (unilateral specialization), those where each participant relinquishes the production of certain goods or services to the others (reciprocal specialization), and those where the participants commit to jointly manufacturing products or providing services (joint production). These agreements are governed by a specific block exemption regulation.
