Within the dynamic startup ecosystem, the concept of traction frequently arises in discussions among entrepreneurs and leaders. While this term has become very fashionable and sometimes overused, it can be defined as a leading indicator of a startup’s success, offering validation or at least a positive sign that the young company’s activity potentially meets a market demand. Renowned entrepreneur Naval Ravikant called it “quantifiable proof of market demand,” while Christian Jorge, co-founder of Vestiaire Collective, simply described it as “tangible market adoption.” Traction can manifest itself, for example, as an increase in website traffic or the number of app installations. Although traction doesn’t always translate into immediate revenue growth, it is closely linked to the prospect of development. For more mature startups, traction can become synonymous with financial growth and lose its original meaning.
