A segmentation score is an assessment assigned to an individual, whether a customer or a prospect, based on available profile and behavioral information. This score, specific to a given business sector, reflects the potential positive impact of an offer on the person being assessed. In other words, the higher the score, the more likely the person is to respond favorably to a sales proposal (known as “propensity”). Furthermore, these scores can be used to estimate the risk of financial default, primarily in the banking and insurance sectors. The terms “customer scoring,” “segmentation,” and, in some situations, “segmentation” are also used.
